Need help with your blog?

I have received quite a few e-mails and questions about designing my blog, and so I have finally got around to coming up with part one of my design series. Posts like this do take quite some time to compose so bare with me! The post should be up on Sunday so keep an eye out for it!

For starters, here are a few links for new bloggers from my past posts.

  • Bloggers Etiquette : a post about the Do's and Don'ts about blogging and self-promotion
  • Blogging Tips: a post about the start of designing your blog, simple do's and don'ts regarding layout, font, and gaining followers.
  • Building Your Blog 1: a post for the new blogger, how to add GFC and how to add labels/links at the top of the page.

Second I am just going to answer some FAQ's

  1. What programs do you use to design your blog?
I use Photoshop but I used to use Gimp. I have not received any training on the program it's all from trial and error and a little help from Google and YouTube.
  2. Where do you get the images you use?
As far as design I make everything myself unless it states otherwise. Currently everything on my blog was made by me with the exception of my buttons under "Find me here" on the right side bar. I don't really like to use images from other people because it's hard to give credit to them and I probably didn't have there permission. In the case that I do use someone's image off the web, I give credit to the site I found it on. For posts sometimes I may use a photo from another site, it usually is very noticeable and I give the site credit.
  3. Where do you go to learn about designing your blog?
Honestly, Photoshop is trial and error for me. HTML is something I picked up long ago when I was 16, I remember reading "HTML for Dummies" and Googling things. A lot of the coding to me is just "common sense" and I remember most of the tags from when I was younger. HTML can also be trial and error you just need to know some basics to get your started. When I don't know something I just Google it, and I really don't save the pages because I usually can remember it or just Google it again.
(I wonder if other search engines get jealous that no one says "Just Yahoo it" or "Just bing it")

And as I said earlier, I have not gone to school for Graphic Design or anything along those lines.

Lastly, I do have most of the post already ready but if you have any questions about blogging, web-design or anything else, leave me a comment below so I can try and answer it and have it available in tomorrows post.

if you have enjoyed this post, please +1 this on Google, thank you!

  1. This is a really great idea to help out the people who are unsure about things like this. I'm the same with photoshop, everything I know I learned from either trial and error or tutorials. Luckily, Faraz is a really good coder, so anytime I have trouble with that he's there to help.

  3. Thanks for sharing - I still find html really hard, maybe I should pick up a copy of html for dummies. The good thing is that you don't really need it if you are happy with a blogger blog.
